Armando and Marianne took the time to get to know us and made the whole stay absolutely exquisite. 

The Bay Guest House is nicely located as it's a 40min drive to Napier and a 15-minute drive to gorgeous wineries such as Craggy Range, Black Barn and Te Mata Estate as well as being close to the stunning Mangapapa Hotel. 

Nice walking options close by, from Waimarama Beach to Maraetotara Falls, plenty to do for all couples and families alike. 

We came back from our honeymoon relaxed and rejuvenated; we will definitely be back as it holds a special place in our hearts.

From the moment we arrived at the Bay Guesthouse, we were treated as special guests by Marianne and Armando who are such lovely, welcoming, kind and talented hosts. 

The Captain's House has all you need for a perfect romantic getaway. We enjoyed a luxury honeymoon package here after our wedding, and I'm certain you couldn't find another experience like this anywhere else in New Zealand! 

Armando and Marianne have thought of everything, a fridge stocked with homemade treats like Crème Caramel, a dressing gown and towel warmer, romantic mood lighting in the Captain's House, the list goes on. 

With uninterrupted ocean views, we watched the beautiful sunrise from bed each morning, relaxed in the spacious bath which has the best views of any bath we'd ever seen and found it a wonderful place to celebrate our honeymoon as well as rest and recharge. 

Marianne and Armando generously shared their Swiss and Italian culture with us, and prepared amazing food. The whole experience made us feel like we were in Europe, but with a bonus of one of the best views in New Zealand and sunny, warm Hawke's Bay weather to enjoy too. 

We enjoyed the amazing and DELICIOUS breakfast on the deck with uninterrupted ocean views, which was prepared with such skill and love.

We celebrated on one of the evenings with a beautiful romantic candlelight dinner as well. We loved our stay at the Bay Guesthouse so much that we decided to extend it an extra day – lucky for us they had an available night.
 
The thing we loved the most about our stay was that everything was done with such love and attention to make a stay at the Bay Guesthouse an experience you will never forget!

Bay Guesthouse is an incredible place with the most spectacular views in NZ and waking up with a breathtaking view like that makes it even more special.

We were looking for luxury accommodation to celebrate a birthday and found this gem that was luxury but still great value for money. The service was excellent and the hosts warm and friendly - they made the stay extra special.

They have different options for dining - informal in the comfort of your private guesthouse or a 3 course meal with wine pairings that was to die for.

The hosts were great with the kids and have loads of entertainment and games available for kids, however it would be equally nice to go there alone as a couple for a romantic getaway as you have the whole house to yourself.

Scenic ocean view, all-glass villas, luxurious breakfast, best hospitality. If you want to stay in luxury in NZ, I definitely recommend this.

A couple with a career in Switzerland will welcome you with the best hospitality. The glass-enclosed villa is a perfect construction that you wouldn't think you built yourself, and you can enjoy a luxurious time without any compromise.

I stayed with three family members with my 8-year-old daughter, and I think it is a perfect place not only for couples but also for families.

Breakfast is gorgeous as shown in the picture. Everything was delicious.

The ocean view is by far the most beautiful I've ever seen. The sunrise was also the most beautiful. My daughter was playing around in a large garden (or rather a hill?). It is a very nice garden that matches the ocean view with nice planting. Hawke's Bay is a city full of attractions, but it may be a luxury to spend a day here without going anywhere.

I chose Bay Guesthouse to celebrate my husband's birthday because of the great reviews and photos on their website. It exceeded all of our expectations, and everything the reviews said was right and more.

Perfectly balancing five-star features with bespoke twists, every aspect of the guest experience at this luxe retreat has been designed and built by them to elevate and redefine luxury: from the interior design intricacies that pay homage to the hosts' background to the personalised and attentive service on hand to curate your perfect Hawke's Bay escape.

We experienced five-star sophistication perched high on the hilltop, soaking up uninterrupted vistas of the ocean and Waimarama beach from every room. We had a sumptuous breakfast spread each morning consisting of homemade bread and pastries, cured salmon, cold meats, fruit salad, selection of cheeses, French toast with caramelised banana one morning and the French omelette with camembert and bacon on another and the list goes on. What made it extra special was the pear frangipane tart they made on the morning of my husband's birthday (see photo).

In the evening, we had an intimate candlelit three-course epicurean dining experience with the best ricotta ravioli starter in tomato sauce, main course fish medley of gurnard, monkfish and salmon in the most delicious creamy white wine sauce, followed by a dessert trio of crème caramel, tiramisu and strawberry sorbet.

We also had their handpicked Paritua wines which we really enjoyed, so much so we went to the Paritua winery the next day and bought some to take home.

Most important of all was the warm welcome and hospitality of Armando and Marianne. It was like meeting wonderful old friends and sharing life experiences while being pampered by them.

Wow-what a weekend, it started with me contacting Marianne and Armando through their web site as I wanted to take my wife away for a weekend for her birthday. Right, from the start they came back to me promptly and offered to make Joanne a birthday cake. We even pre-arranged the menu, they were very accommodating as to me not eating seafood.

We arrived late afternoon early evening, the place is a little hard to find the first time, the GPS got us close but I suggest that you read the very well prepared and supplied directions. Driving up the drive and finally reaching the top we found ourselves looking at the Bay Guest House, a very well presented modern building with a 360-degree view to die for. And of course, Marianne and Armando were waiting for us, a quick introduction including an arm around the shoulder and we were shown around.

The place was fantastic and the photos on the web site don't do it justice. Armando brought our luggage in and refused any help from me. We were given some advice of places for dinner in Havelock North, we decided on the pizza, a little place kind of hidden away which we would have never found had we not been given directions, the crust was the best that I can remember ever having.

Next morning we woke up and headed to breakfast at the arranged time, oh my god there was that much food I wondered who else would be joining us, there was the food we wouldn't have usually had for breakfast but we had a go anyway, we ate too much but enjoyed everything we ate.

We went off for a massage and wine / local area tour before arriving back for a quick shower and then the three-course dinner.

We sat down to the dinner Marianne and Armando treated us like royalty and were joined by their daughter to help plate up our meals. Again the food was fantastic, the food we wouldn't normally eat, we were out of our comfort zone and enjoyed every minute.

We decided to sit and talk with Marianne and Armando after dinner there was no pressure and they would have gone with the flow and left us to it if that had been what we had wanted. I was interested in their story how and why New Zealand.

Sunday morning we woke up to another beautiful sunrise, then another huge breakfast this time with the added bonus of a French omelette, this I will remember for a long time, we were seen off like long lost friends. The was one of my better decision's, not only was the place, accommodation and view outstanding what really made the weekend was the interaction with Marianne and Armando.

The Bay Guest House is very unique and provides what I would say is fantastic value for money, they have pitched their pricing so that almost anyone could afford this experience.

Would I recommend the Bay Guest House, hell yes I'm just looking for an excuse to head back! Thank you for an amazing weekend Regards, Joanne and David Howard

We spent our wedding anniversary at this beautiful captain's cottage with our two-year-old girl.

We were looking for a child friendly place with a nice sea view. From the very first email from Armando and Marianne we realized that bay guest house is the place we were looking for. We booked it with no hesitation.

From the very first minute we enter this guest house, we felt very welcomed. The view is spectacular. And the combination of the panoramic view and lovely welcoming host made this place magical.

The food is amazing... And we didn't have to worry about our girl as lovely Marianne was accompanying her while we were having our delicious breakfast leisurely. Thanks Marianne, Armando and Sabrina. We are hoping to go back to this lovely place again... :)

From the moment we arrived at the bay guest house we were treated like royalty! We were greeted by Armando and Marianne at the door and it was like we were family. They were so welcoming Armando, Marianne and Sabrina are amazing people and fantastic hosts.

Nothing was ever a problem, they helped us find activities to do during the day and the food they cooked us was incredible, don't go out for dinner when you stay here because their cooking is better than you will get served in any of the restaurants. I promise you that you won't be disappointed.

The views are some of the best you will find in the Hawkes Bay, the accommodation is 5 star and I can't fault anything about this place! The only thing we were disappointed in was that our stay wasn't longer as we were so sad to leave!

We can't wait to get back there. Armando, Marianne and Sabrina we just want to thank you all so much for going above and beyond for us, For the amazing conversations, your warm hospitality, the laughs and giving us a stay that we will never forget and never stop talking about, we tell everyone about you guys! We are still pinching ourselves that we had the honour and privilege of meeting Armando and Marianne and enjoying their hospitality, their company and beautiful home.

Armando and Marianne offer such an amazing stay with style and professionalism. Their attention to detail ensures a fabulous experience. With every turn we discovered little touches confirming their impeccable taste. All the decor matched and was colour coordinated. Fresh, crisp and sparkling.

Every morning we had a banquet breakfast, personally prepared and served by Marianne and Armando.

We have travelled and stayed at many hotels over the years, but staying at the Bay Guesthouse was a unique experience with a personal touch. We felt like royalty. From our very first email contact with our host, Armando, we could not have hoped for a better or more enthusiastic service. He went out of his way to make sure that everything ran smoothly for us, giving us crystal clear directions to his family's wonderful home and welcoming us with great warmth (and delicious desserts) on our arrival.

This impeccable standard of hospitality was maintained throughout our 3-night stay. Nothing was too much trouble with Armando, his wife, Marianne and daughter, Sabrina attending to our every need.

Breakfast was served at whatever time we wanted and was just fantastic - a fabulous selection of homemade produce including gravadlax, fresh fruit, yoghurts, caramelised nuts, meats, cheese and freshly baked pastries and bread. Without exception, these were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented.

We were also fortunate enough to have the pleasure of dinner at the "Captain's table" one night. Our meal was prepared exactly as we had asked and lived up to the standard of the breakfast.

The family were wonderful hosts spending time chatting to us, preparing special items of food and offering numerous good recommendations about things to do in the surrounding area.

Over and above all of this Bay Guesthouse sits on a clifftop in a truly spectacular spot - we even had breakfast served outdoors on our first morning!

Accommodation is spacious, private and very well appointed. We felt very much at home throughout our stay.

This was our first visit to New Zealand but we have promised to return and we will undoubtedly visit Armando and his family again. We now have a new expression we use together "Armando would do this" which basically covers anything involving exceptional, friendly service.

Want to be treated like royalty? I highly recommend Bay Guesthouse for just such an experience.

My 86 year old mother had not been on holiday for a while due to her mobility so I wanted something which would be memorable and accessible.

Wow, all I can say is, as good as the photos are they do not do this place justice. It is an overall experience. We were greeted at the door by Armando, Marianne and son Fabian and welcomed like we were the most important people on earth.

The house its views all the way through from the skylights to the styling and we were extremely lucky because we went at Christmas so the trees and decorations added extra atmosphere.

The Captains House is strategically placed to make the most of the sea views and sunrises. Everything was easily accessible for my mother and her walker and wheelchair.

Armando's meals were a treat and specifically catered with my mother in mind. One the 2nd night we had the pleasure of their company at dinner. Once you have experienced luxury like this I think one risks being spoilt(for comparisons) for the rest of your life.

This is not our normal price range so all the love and attention was appreciated and I will be forever thankful to Armando and Maryanne for providing this last memorable holiday experience for my mother.

My partner and I can say with confidence, this place is by far the best place we've ever stayed in. The Bay Guesthouse (Captains Suite) is truly a special place, fitted for luxurious stays and beautiful romantic getaways. From the moment we arrived, we were showered with hospitality and the most amazing views throughout. These breaktaking views were enjoyed everyday no matter what time, day and night. 

The hosts made this romantic birthday espace very special with amazingly delicious food everyday, honest and reliable information for how to spend our days, and they maintained the utmost respect of our privacy. 

I highly recommend the Bay Guesthouse to anyone lucky enough for the opportunity to stay there. In every aspect of a luxury stay considering location, service, and cleanliness, it is unbeatable. With a first-class level of hospitality and luxury, this stay is an excellent value. The location may seem like a trek but it's actually quite close to the wineries and tucked into the sheep filled hills making the drive to and from very magical.

What an unreal 4 days we had at the Bay Guesthouse.

With the accommodation nestled at the very peak of a magnificent hilltop, you will have your own private 360 degree view of the breathtaking Hawke's Bay from your bedroom window.

The house itself is beautifully designed, boasting European class, space and style (which we learnt was built by the hosts themselves!). 

The service was simply impeccable. The best part of the whole experience of staying at this luxury location was, without a doubt, sharing it with Marianne, Armando, and their daughter Sabrina. They truly went above and beyond the meaning of hospitality.

We were served the finest 3-course meals for dinner, and the most lavish buffet breakfast to greet us every morning. We were always spoilt with choice. They were attentive to all our needs and wants, and preempted things that we didn't even know we wanted - like cooking us a special breakfast unique to our region of the world, simply because they wanted us to feel at home, or a private car tour of the vineyards and the Hawke's Bay Region along with unique commentary that only Armando can provide. 

A timeless, priceless experience that I would recommend to anyone and everyone. We have left (begrudgingly!) with hearts and tummies full of love and laughter. Miss you all already and sending all of the love. - Manasvi and Astha
